25 – A game you plan on playing?
I don’t like to give away what games I’m going to play for Retro Redress (I have a theory that people like to be surprised) but there is one game that I am definitely going to play next year, a wrong I definitely need to put right…
I’ve owned GTA III four times and never got off the first island. I first got it with my PS2 for my 18th, hammered it for two weeks then stopped playing it, never to return. I can’t explain why – I was enjoying GTA III, I reckon I must have got stuck.
Years later, I bought GTA III on my mobile phone. I was surprised it worked, walked around the streets for twenty minutes then stopped playing, never to return.
New Years Day 2016, I bought the GTA Trilogy in a sale and ignored it for a while. I finally fired up GTA III earlier this year and got stuck on the final mission on the first island. I then stopped playing GTA III never to return.
To be honest, the frame rate issues my laptop was struggling with kinda put me off too. So I purchased the GTA Trilogy again on my PS4 in the spring.
I have a list of games that Retro Redress was specifically set up for. Sure, there are lots of games that I need to play…but there is a list of games that HAVE to be played. GTA III is on that list and I intend to beat it next year…fourth time lucky I hope….

This game has been the background of a lot of summer nights with my friends. We used to play this for hours along with Worms 2 and Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines. And some PES, of course…

Of course we did. To be completely honesty at first we tried to accomplish the missions carefully but after five minutes we were driving like crazy, smashing cars, hitting pedestrians and fucking around. We started doing such things years before on the first GTA, another game we loved. We were criminals…

It’s so much fun though! Surely that was the basis for GTA online too….

Actually I let the gf of one of my friends play GTA3 once and she used to stop even to the traffic lights when it was red. I couldn’t tolerate that pristine behavior so I took the keyboard, smashed a few cars and cripple some pedestrians…(but I probably did the worst kind of things on Carmageddon)

I can’t believe she tried to drive properly on it! Surely everyone gives up on that after a few minutes?
Carmageddon…there was a game. I remember my cousin raving about on PC. Sadly the much later console versions weren’t much good and I’d lost interest by then ..

I only tried the PC version I still have somewhere. It’s one of the few games I finally completed this year…

I’ve never finished it before mainly because I usually play this game only to kill time…and cows…so very quickly I lose interest in the “mission” and start to wander around looking for secret places and funny power ups…

Ah yes. I bought this when I was at university and was enjoying it. Then one of our flat mate’s boyfriend moved in and played whilst I was at lectures and I lost track of where I was so never bothered playing it any more. Perhaps this is a subconscious reason why I don’t like the series!

You mean, he used your save file? If so, that’s a massive no-no!
I hope it’s not the reason you don’t like GTA – be a shame to miss out on some great games because of someone hijacking your game….

Yeah, he was a bit of an arse. I don’t really like the series anyway. Open worlds, characters I don’t like, etc. It’s just not the series for me. Having said that, I did like the old top down games!

See I’m the opposite…got bored of the old top down games, but love the 3D ones. I just love the game world…I like getting lost in cities….
I didn’t want to say anything in case you still knew him. Playing another man’s save without permission though…unforgivable!
